After women's rights: the consequences of gender equality reforms

The acceleration of women's rights promotion around the world in recent years has catapulted formal guarantees of equality ahead of social norms and practices in many countries. Does promotion of formal support for gender equality in this context increase support for it or cause a backlash? I will present a theory and the design for an original lab and survey experiment, to be conducted in Morocco, addressing this question.
