Event Description
Social media has become an increasingly fruitful avenue for research in political science and other disciplines. This skill session will provide information about methods related to Twitter and YouTube, such as using their APIs to webscrape data and produce descriptive analyses. The session will begin with an introduction to these social media sites and their APIs. Then, we will show how to use R and Python to webscrape data, including the process for how to register API keys for each service. We will conclude with discussions about future avenues for this method in political science and elsewhere.
